Why Volunteer with Landcare?(2026)

Why is Landcare so good for us, our health, our wellbeing and our local environment!
  • Make a real environmental impact by helping protect and restore local bushland, waterways, wildlife habitat, and natural resources in the Port Macquarie–Hastings region.
  • Get involved in hands-on conservation work, such as tree planting, habitat restoration, bush regeneration, and biodiversity projects. Hastings Landcare volunteers have helped create wildlife corridors and restore degraded land through community planting events.
  • Connect with like-minded people who care about the environment and the future of the local community. Hastings Landcare emphasizes community involvement and local partnerships.
  • Learn new skills and gain experience in environmental management, native plants, sustainable land management, and conservation practices. Landcare groups across Australia commonly provide opportunities for learning and skill development.
  • Enjoy the health benefits of spending time outdoors, including physical activity, social interaction, and improved wellbeing.
  •  Be part of a respected local organisation that has been supporting environmental conservation and community engagement in the Hastings region since 1995.

Hastings Landcare Inc

Hastings Landcare Inc empowers individuals to take action and make a positive impact on the environment, farmland, and natural resources within our local community. Hastings Landcare assists 15 Volunteer groups across the Port Macquarie-Hastings Region. These Landcare groups work to restore native habitat, create wildlife corridors and enhance biodiversity. Volunteers carry out tree planting, weed control and rubbish removal on public, Council managed site.

New Volunteers are always welcome!

Local Native Plants

Supporting the regeneration of this extensive area is the development of the Port Macquarie Landcare Nursery which allows for a source of native plants of local provenance for residents, regional landholders Port Macquarie Hastings Council, NPWS and developers.

Landcare Support for Private Property Owners

Hastings Landcare also provide support to private landholders including those with farms, bush blocks, hobby farms and large urban blocks. Support includes help with approaches to weed control, plant identification, tree planting approaches, property management and more. We are the Land for Wildlife provider for this region, provide site visits, and at times have grants available for landholders.
