Senna is a very common weed in our area and is often targeted at working bees. The bright yellow flowers are currently in full bloom and easy to spot. Effective weed control options include cut and paint, using a tree popper and hand removal of smaller plants during wet weather.
Originally, from Brazil this weed prefers a sub-tropical/tropical environment. It is often found in drainage channels, along roadsides, hind-dunes and bushland. It can outcompete natives and invade bushland by producing thousands of seeds each year.
There are some native look alikes like Rainforest Cassia (senna acclinis) and Breynia oblongifolia. If you have any doubts we are happy to help and you can contact us.
