New funding will support community-led environmental initiatives, Aboriginal partnerships and innovative Landcare activities across the Hastings region.
Hastings Landcare is pleased to highlight new funding announced for local Landcare initiatives through the North Coast Regional Landcare Network, supporting the ongoing work of communities dedicated to protecting and restoring our natural environment.
Announced in July 2026, the funding forms part of a $1.27 million regional investment in Landcare across the North Coast. Hastings Landcare has been allocated a total of $63,292 across two funding streams to support projects that strengthen local environmental outcomes and community participation.
The allocation includes $26,918 to support Aboriginal partnerships and the development of a seasonal calendar with the Gathangga Walkulda Language Centre, alongside $36,374 for environmental innovation, workshops and community engagement.
These initiatives provide opportunities to bring people together, share knowledge and build stronger connections between community, culture and Country.
Supporting Local Knowledge and Environmental Action
Landcare is built on collaboration. By bringing together volunteers, community groups, landholders, Traditional Custodians and other partners, Hastings Landcare works to improve environmental health while encouraging people to take an active role in caring for the places they call home.
The new funding will help support activities that encourage community involvement, promote knowledge-sharing and explore practical approaches to environmental restoration and conservation.
Aboriginal partnerships are an important part of this work. Recognising and sharing cultural knowledge can strengthen community connections to Country and help build a deeper understanding of the landscapes, seasons and ecosystems that sustain our region.
Recognition of Hastings Landcare's Community Contribution
Hastings Landcare's work was also recognised in the NSW Parliament in February 2026 by Robert Dwyer MP, Member for Port Macquarie.
The recognition highlighted the organisation's contribution to environmental protection, habitat restoration, tree planting, community education and volunteer participation throughout the Hastings region.
This acknowledgement reflects the dedication of the many volunteers, partners and community members who contribute their time, skills and local knowledge to Landcare activities.
From restoring habitats and supporting biodiversity to engaging the next generation in environmental stewardship, local Landcare efforts demonstrate what communities can achieve when they work together.
Looking Ahead
The funding provides an opportunity to build on existing partnerships and develop further activities that support a healthier, more resilient environment (and community) across the Hastings region.
Hastings Landcare thanks its volunteers, project partners, community supporters and everyone who contributes to caring for our local landscapes. Their ongoing commitment makes a meaningful difference to the places, plants, animals and communities that make the Hastings region special.
