iNaturalist Wildflower Walk (2026)

Community building plant identification knowledge!

Our community enjoyed a fantastic day exploring the beautiful bushland around North Haven on a guided wildflower walk, building confidence in identifying local native plants and discovering more about the biodiversity of our area.

Using the iNaturalist app, participants practised observing key plant features, taking useful photographs and working through the process of species identification. Along the way, we identified a variety of native wildflower species and shared knowledge and tips for recognising plants in the field.

These hands-on activities are a great way to develop practical plant identification skills, deepen our understanding of local flora and encourage more people to connect with the natural environment.

The walk also offered the opportunity to observe native bees busy visiting the flowers. Watching these important pollinators in action highlighted the close connections between native plants, pollinators and the wider ecosystem, and the important role they play in supporting local biodiversity.

It was wonderful to see participants learning together, sharing observations and building skills they can use on future outdoor adventures.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! Your enthusiasm and curiosity helped make the walk an enjoyable and informative community experience.

We encourage everyone to keep exploring, photographing and identifying local native species using iNaturalist. Every observation is an opportunity to learn more about the plants and wildlife that make our local bushland so special.
