Join us for a Habitat Restoration Workshop on Saturday the 16th of November 2024, at the Ellenborough Hall.
The workshop provides a unique opportunity for landholders to access resources and technical advice to improve their land to better support both wildlife and livestock. Attendees will learn about on-ground habitat restoration funding opportunities, see weed control demonstrations, and learn how to identify signs of koalas on their property.
Partnership Officer for Koala Conservation Australia, Louise Hoade said the Ellenborough region is a stronghold for koalas, especially considering the threats facing koalas in the broader region. ‘With over sixty percent of koala habitat in NSW being on private land, it’s such an important resource for koalas and needs conserving.”
The NSW Koala Strategy is funding on-ground works including fencing, weed control and tree planting to protect habitat patches, create corridors and extend habitat on priority properties with koala habitat.
Hastings Landcare representative Stephen Allwood said that improving your property for wildlife also creates benefits from a farming and stock management point of view. “At Hastings Landcare we visit all landholders who would like support or guidance in managing the bushland on their property.”
Weed control can be overwhelming and frustrating when people are using the wrong approach or techniques or just don’t know where to start. During the workshop, Envite Environmental will show a weed control demonstration, giving some ‘Tips, Tools and Techniques’ to take home.
The event is being held by Hastings Landcare, NSW Koala Strategy, Koala Conservation Australia and Envite Environmental. The workshop is free of charge and morning tea and lunch will be provided. However, numbers are limited, with preference given to rural landholders in the greater Ellenborough area, so please register at below, and the workshop will run between 8:45-12:30pm.
